When three cousins each receive a mysterious letter with a hand drawn map, they start planning a summer adventure. Tommy, Anton and Joleen set out to solve the mystery of the map and it leads them to the discovery of a family secret.
Their adventures are full of investigating, laughter and learning. The children discover a family member that they had never known about and along with that they find out the family secret that has been kept for many years. Tommy, Anton and Joleen learn about horses and riding them and about the Chickasaw Indians, their customs and costumes. And how to turn around a terrible mistake that was made 100 years ago.
While riding their horses, they come across a fire in the wheat fields. Racing the horses back to the barn Joleen sees a red hawk that seems to be leading the way through the thick smoke. The children reach the barn and Anton is missing! Tommy turned his horse around and headed back down the path. He found Anton's horse but no Anton.
Anton is found by an Indian maiden named Melody. She takes care of him and after two days she gives Anton a rusty metal box to show to his family. The metal box reveals the secret and the children make sure a unspeakable wrong is made right.

IT has been too long since I read this to give a good review, I live where land grants were given. In fact I live on one. I enjoyed the book and will read it again so I can give you a better review. YOU can Study about the history of Indian lands, it is no wonder so many mistrust the truth fullness of our gov't. sic!Actually they had fed gov't giving too them worst than black slaves, they (we) just didn't complain as much.
sorry, history stays alive forever.

I enjoyed this book a lot. Even though it is more along the lines of what a teen would read, as a Grandpa I liked it. It carried a good message and the plot was fun and not far fetched like so many others are. A good wholesome interesting and comfortable read. I truly enjoyed it and think others will too. Good job!
